Kazakhstan emerging as a regional leader in Geology

Executive Director of the KAZRC Association, Bekasyl Aukeshev, delivered a keynote speech at the 28th Session of the CIS Intergovernmental Council for Exploration, Use and Protection of Subsoil held in Astana.

Since 2016, the Republic of Kazakhstan, represented by the KAZRC Association, has been a member of the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO). The Association actively cooperates with international organizations and remains open to knowledge exchange and professional collaboration.

«As of August 1, 2025, the Committee on Geology has accepted 260 KAZRC-compliant reports prepared by 96 Competent Persons with the involvement of 41 reviewers. What do these figures tell us?First, the steady flow of KAZRC reports is a key indicator of the market’s and the regulator’s acceptance of the standard.Second, the expansion of the pool of Competent Persons, QMRs and reviewers helps reduce operational risks such as misclassification of resources and reserves or inconsistencies in methodologies.Third, the coverage of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities reflects the maturity and self-sustainability of the ecosystem», - highlighted Bekasyl Aukeshev.

He also noted that today the Association unites 13 organizations, including public associations of independent experts and professional authorities in the subsoil use.

«Kazakhstan remains the only country in Central Asia that is a member of CRIRSCO. Together with the Professional Organization of Subsoil Users and Experts of Kazakhstan (PONEN), KAZRC is actively sharing its experience in implementing international standards.Building on this foundation, we propose consolidating the efforts of partner countries and designating KAZRC as a regional hub for the adoption of international public reporting standards, as well as establishing a Unified Community of Competent Persons in Central Asia», - stated Bekasyl Aukeshev.
