How the Balkhash CHP Prepared for the Heating Season

The Balkhash Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP), operated by Kazakhmys Energy LLP, has completed comprehensive preparations for the upcoming heating season.

This year, maintenance and repairs were carried out on key boiler and turbine units. Equipment was also upgraded in the fuel handling, turbine and chemical departments.

The plant has significantly increased its fuel reserves. Currently, 136,000 tonnes of coal have been stockpiled, almost double the regulatory requirement, as well as over 730 tonnes of fuel oil, far exceeding the required 137 tonnes. These reserves will ensure uninterrupted operation even during peak demand periods.

In addition, a full diagnostic assessment and technical inspection of the plant’s equipment are being conducted.

We undertook large-scale preparations and are fully ready for the winter. Our goal is to ensure that the residents and businesses of Balkhash can rely on stable heat supply and the reliable operation of the station,»
said Zhasyn Aldebergenov, Chief Operating Officer of the Balkhash CHP.

The total funding allocated for repair and maintenance work amounts to approximately KZT 6.4 bln, including KZT 2.4 bln for routine maintenance and around KZT 4 bln for capital repairs.

Heat supply from the Balkhash CHP to the city networks operated by Balkhash Zhylu LLP  will begin in accordance with the directive of the city governor.
