Konyrat today

By the end of the year, the miners of Konyrat planned to extract ore for 2 million tons, with a copper content of 0.31% in the raw material. Currently, work is being carried out on the 350th horizon of the quarry, that is, almost 300 meters below the surface level. The extraction and shipment of ore to the Balkhash processing plant amounted to about 1.5 million tons, with a copper content already at 0.32%. The Konrad (Konyrat) deposit was first geologically and economically illuminated by the Leningrad geologist Mikhail Rusakov in 1928. Systematic and geological exploration work at the field began in 1929. The development of the field has been carried out since 1934 according to the project of the institute "GIPROTsvetmet". It was from Konyrat that the construction of the copper giant and the city on the shore of the azure lake Balkhash began. Konyrat is one of the oldest Kazakhmys deposits. It can be called the "Golden Cradle" of the city of Balkhash.
