The participants
discussed a wide range of issues, from the emission of pollutants into the
environment to the statistics of cancer-related diseases. “For 2018-2022, at the Zhezkazgan copper smelting plant it is planned to build and put into operation a new sulfuric shop with the use of the advanced technology of double contacting with an environmental effect. This will help reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 40 thousand tons.” On behalf of Kazakhmys
Corporation LLP, Adilet Barmenkulov, Deputy Chairman of the Board, General
Director of Kazakhmys Smelting, took part in the discussion. He informed the
attendees of the measures taken by the company to improve the environmental
situation in the operations areas of Kazakhmys, billions of tenges spent
annually for these purposes, and the time necessary to solve the main problems
in this field. At the end of the
meeting, the speakers answered the questions from environmental activists. Akhmetzhan
Primkulov offered the regional authorities to develop the roadmaps to improve
the environmental situation in Balkhash and Zhezkazgan, having considered all
the proposals of the activists. According to the vice-minister, it will help to
solve the most pressing problems in certain cities more efficiently and bring
more benefit to their citizens.
