Kazakhmys Progress LLP: New technologies - new products
07.04.2022
The
project provides for the construction of three sites — refining of rough
selenium; processing of precious metals of the precious metals workshop of the
Balkhash copper smelter and crushing of slag. The
technology of refining rough selenium on the territory of the Republic of
Kazakhstan is environmentally safe and has no analogues. The implementation of
the project in the near future will allow us to increase the profitability of
production by reducing the loss of valuable metals with rough selenium and
ensure the complexity of processing copper raw materials. We will also be able
to receive new commercial products for copper production in the form of branded
selenium with a high market value," said Alexander Shakhalov, Director of
Kazakhmys Progress LLP. 12
new jobs have already been created here, a total of 38 will be opened under the
project. The commissioned site, which will be located on the territory of the
former zinc plant, is a continuous production cycle with a processing capacity
of 75 tons per year. Selenium has photoelectric properties that change under
the influence of light conductivity. In addition, this element is used in the
production of alloys, pigments, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals. One of the
main market areas for selenium is its use in the production of glass and dyes.
In metallurgy, it is used to give cast steel a fine-grained structure, as well
as to improve the mechanical properties of stainless steel. It is also widely
used as a catalyst in the chemical industry. Almost
the entire volume of technical selenium produced in Kazakhstan is exported, and
refined selenium was not produced at all. And Kazakhmys Progress LLP is a
pioneer in this field. Lyazzat
