Surveying equipment upgraded at Kazakhmys Mines
At the East Zhezkazgan Mine, the West Mine and the Surveying Department, new geodetic equipment has been introduced. The sites have received state-of-the-art Leica TS07 R1000 5″ electronic total stations, which combine high accuracy, reliability and ease of use in active mining operations.
The new instruments can perform reflectorless measurements at distances up to 1,000 meters, offer angular accuracy up to 5 seconds and are fully dust-and water-resistant (IP66). Integration with Leica Captivate software allows all major surveying tasks to be completed on-site, from staking out project coordinates and back-sighting to calculating areas, volumes, and visualizing data.
«For us, this is more than just equipment replacement», - explains Asel Kosumova, Chief Surveyor at the East Zhezkazgan Mine, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP. «These instruments allow us to obtain highly accurate data and process results more quickly. This means that all mine sections receive a more reliable foundation for planning and control».
Previously, older total station models with limited functionality were used. The new equipment reduces measurement time, increases survey accuracy and minimizes the impact of human error.
These improvements enhance the reliability of geodetic data, which is crucial for planning exploration, construction and mining operations. As a result, the efficiency of the entire production chain, from geological exploration to mine operation, is significantly improved.
