The Chairman of the Industrial Safety Committee under the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan Rashid Dubaev and the Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP Nurakhmet Nuriev inspected the implementation progress of the plan for eliminating the consequences of the accident at the Zhomart Mine.

During the inspection, the officials were shown technical boreholes drilled for prediction and degassing purposes. The drilling was carried out using a RHINO drilling rig, which first drills a pilot hole with a diameter of 380 mm, later expanded to 2.5 meters with a reamer. Such boreholes can subsequently be used for laying pipelines and cables, as well as for ventilation purposes.

Representatives of the Committee were also briefed on stationary sensors installed at the site, which automatically shut down electrical equipment when gas concentrations exceed the permissible limits.

In the presence of the visitors, measurements were taken across all boreholes. Readings from Sputnik-M1 gas analyzers confirmed the absence of gases in the mine’s atmosphere. In addition, every mine worker is equipped with a handheld gas analyzer and positioning sensors. The data from these geolocation tags are transmitted directly to the Emergency Situations Department of Ulytau Region and the Industrial Safety Committee, enabling real-time tracking of miners and equipment within the work zones.

At the Shaft-Sinking Trust named after G. Omarov, a special ventilation drift has been constructed, connecting Panel 37 East with the lower transport drift in the area of the accident. Going forward, this passage will be used to supply fresh air and to install a pipeline for water drainage.

Following the visit, the Chairman of the Industrial Safety Committee of the MES RK commended the work accomplished and emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the approved plan of subsequent actions.

Currently, scientific and research activities continue at the Zhomart Mine. Leading scientific and engineering organizations have been engaged, a comprehensive series of in-depth studies has been conducted, monitoring and control systems have been implemented as well as technical solutions have been developed and approved by the state supervisory authorities.
