At the national «Clean Kazakhstan» Eco-Festival Nurakhmet Nuriev Chairman of the Board of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, presented to the Head of State the environmental initiatives implemented by the company over the past year.

Kazakhmys places particular emphasis on fostering environmental awareness among children from an early age. In the regions of the company’s presence, several initiatives aligned with the «Clean Kazakhstan» program are underway. Among these is the «Thousand Green Steps» project, in which first-grade students plant trees and care for them until they graduate. To date, 2,000 students from 25 schools have participated in this initiative.

Another initiative, «Green Games», combines sporting tournaments with environmental actions: students engage in clean-up campaigns and participate in lectures on environmental protection. The «Care for Your Homeland» competition encourages children to develop and implement their own environmental projects from an early age, addressing local ecological challenges.

Since the launch of the «Clean Kazakhstan» program, 23 volunteer clean-up campaigns have been organized, involving the planting of greenery. Over 26,000 company employees have participated, collecting over 500 tons of household waste and planting more than 15,000 trees.

Kazakhmys also presented a large-scale initiative to preserve the ecosystem of Lake Balkhash. In autumn 2024, the company announced an allocation of USD 5 mln for environmental projects. On April 28 in Almaty, a roundtable will be held with representatives from government ministries, UNDP, and environmental experts to select key initiatives. These include the creation of a digital twin of the lake, installation of pollution monitoring sensors, construction of a fish hatchery and other measures.

In the area of reducing industrial environmental impact, the company has consistently implemented gasification of production processes, which has already reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. Additionally, energy-saving and efficiency projects are actively deployed to reduce fuel consumption.
