Occupational Safety and Production Plans: On-site meeting held at the Zhylandy Mine with the participation of Kazakhmys Management

An on-site quarterly meeting was held at the Zhylandy Mine, bringing together employees of the enterprise and Sayat Bakirov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP for Production. The central topics of discussion were industrial safety and labor discipline.

Sayat Bakirov highlighted that no workplace accidents had been recorded at the Zhylandy Mine in the current year. However, he emphasized that the absence of incidents should not lead to complacency regarding safety standards.

He called on employees to pay closer attention to risk assessment procedures at their workplaces. According to established regulations, each employee must first assess their workstation jointly with an engineering and technical specialist before being authorized to perform their duties. Although employees possess the necessary training, experience, and awareness to identify potential hazards, they sometimes neglect this crucial step, thereby creating conditions that could lead to accidents.

«A responsible approach means that when you identify a risk, you must report it and take measures to eliminate it. If the risk cannot be removed, work must not begin. Compliance with safety protocols is directly linked to professional competence. Here’s a simple example: when a driller follows the design plan while boring a face, it increases workplace safety. Properly drilled blast holes reduce the risk of rock overbreak and improve the efficiency of blasting operations. By adhering to safety regulations, a worker protects not only themselves but also their colleagues,»,- emphasized Sayat Bakirov.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the production performance of the drifting teams at the East and West Saryoba, Itauz, Karashoshak and Kipshakbay mines.

Currently, the Zhylandy Mine ranks among the most promising assets of Kazakhmys. Its annual production capacitystands at 2.7 million tonnes of ore, employing approximately 900 workers. The proven ore reserves across the East and West Saryoba, Itauz, Karashoshak and Kipshakbay mines are estimated at 180 million tonnes, with an average copper grade of 1.03%.

By 2026, the company plans to increase the mine’s annual capacity to 3.6 million tonnes, and by 2030 to over 6 million tonnes. The expansion program includes significant upgrades to production infrastructure and workforce growth. Planned projects encompass the construction of new ventilation facilities at the East Saryoba and Itauz mines, installation of hoisting and air shafts, expansion of the main conveyor system and construction of a new power transmission line.

The meeting concluded with a Q&A session, allowing mine employees to discuss pressing issues directly with corporate leadership.
