THE ROAD TO HAJIKONGAN

Kazakhmys Corporation is in full swing preparing for the shipment of sulfide ore from the Hajikongan quarry to the Karagaili factory. Ore processing from the new deposit is planned to begin in the autumn of next year together with the ore from the Abyz and Akbastau deposits. The extraction of the first sulfide ore at the Hajikongan quarry is scheduled for early 2022 with an annual capacity of 200 thousand tons and a copper content of 1.67%. According to the design decisions, the ore will be delivered from the Hajikongan quarry via the ore carrier road to the Aschisu station and further along the railway track to the Karagailinsky factory itself. The ore-carrying two-lane road, the construction of which is planned until mid-summer 2022, will continue to serve not only for the shipment of raw materials to the Aschisu station, but also for the delivery of goods and materials to the deposit. The bridge provided by the project across the flowing Altynsu River will allow avoiding the erosion of roads in flood periods in the future," Zhasulan Bayniyazov, Chief Engineer of Karagandatsvetmet, commented on the upcoming construction. And at the Aschisu station, the corporation will join the railway dead end to the transshipment site, build an overtaking track with a device for weighing weights, install switch posts, lighting and communication. All rooms - the operator's room, the buildings of the switch and the receiving and delivery post will be provided with heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Construction works are planned by third-party specialized organizations through open bidding in accordance with the procedure established by law. During the construction periods, and in the future, with the development of mining and shipment of ore from the Hajikongan deposit, employment opportunities are expanding, and with this the well-being of the region.
