In early May, the copper electrolysis workshop of the Balkhash Copper Smelting Plant of Kazakhmys Smelting LLP celebrates its 70th anniversary. The copper electrolysis workshop consists of three technological sections and three repair services: an electrolysis section, a vitriol section and a finished product section. The electrolysis section includes a section of low tide of lead anodes, and the vitriol section includes three departments: vitriol, cementation and deep decontamination; a section of chemical protection works and repair of baths; an energy service. The copper electrolysis shop produces high–quality commercial products - cathode copper. In the process of production of marketable products, copper–electric sludge is formed, which is the raw material for precious metal production - the production of gold and silver in ingots. In the workshop, work is carried out on an ongoing basis to protect and implement investment projects to replace equipment and perform major repairs. For example, in the period from 2016-2021, circulation pumps were replaced, which made it possible to restore backup pumps and eliminate downtime. At the same time, the consumable and pressure tanks of the circulation systems were replaced, as well as the boiler washing machine. The overhead cranes and the vacuum pump for pumping sludge were updated. At the site of finished products, work was also carried out to replace loaders, hydraulic shears, presses for packing copper and a contact electric locomotive. Repairs were also carried out in the main building. In the future, replacement of equipment with expired service life is planned – these are pumps, overhead cranes, loaders, electric locomotives, circulation tanks, heat exchangers. Work will also continue to perform the capital repairs of the building and metal structures of the main building of the copper electrolysis shop to maintain in a working condition.
