The sports debut of our colleague Azamat Nadraliev was crowned with success at the international triathlon competitions for the "half-iron" distance of the Ironman Turkey 70.3 series, held in the Turkish city of Belek, where 2,500 athletes from all over the world took part.
Azamat successfully overcame all the stages, and this is a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer bike ride along the highway and a 21-kilometer half marathon race in 5 hours and 48 minutes. Moreover, for him, the demonstrated result is far from the limit. It's just that he, as a beginner at these competitions, was advised not to give his all, going the distance at a comfortable speed for himself.
In ordinary life, Azamat Nadraliev heads the department for working with the directory of goods, works and services of the Center for the Development and Accounting of the Needs of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, but now his colleagues know that a real athlete with an iron character can hide under the business suit of an office worker.
I have been involved in swimming and athletics since childhood," Azamat says. – This start for me was like a challenge to myself. The format of the Ironman competition is not suitable for everyone, but I wanted to test myself and a year ago I started training. I have already run marathons repeatedly, but here the load is an order of magnitude higher, so for the last year I have been living in a regime of intensive training, I had from 9 to 12 of them a week, almost seven days a week. As a result, I passed the distance well and received a license to participate in full-distance competitions, which will take place in the summer of 2022 in Barcelona. There will be a 3.8-kilometer swim, a 180-kilometer bike ride and a 42.195-kilometer race.
During my debut performance, swimming in open water was the hardest for me, because I train in the pool. The weather was bad – there was a lot of excitement and I had to raise my head high to breathe. I will take this into account when preparing for the next starts.
In the meantime, Azamat has started preparing for the next start on the "half-iron" distance, which will be held in Abu Dhabi in February 2022.
