The Workshop producing copper and enameled wire- one of the structural branches of Kazakhmys Smelting Limited Liability Company, celebrates its 25th anniversary.
A quarter of a century is a short time in the history of any production. Nevertheless, the staff of the Workshop proved its professional competence, and the company demonstrates its competitiveness.
A lot of decisions and level-structural work have been made in the early 90s on workshop’s start-up with the new technology and release of a quality product.
The collapse of the Soviet Union, as well as the collapse in established value chains in the 90s, affected the work of town-forming enterprise in Balkhash.
Managing staff of PA Balkhashmed actively seek ways out of the crisis. The copper processing program on the production of wire rods and enameled pipes based on criteria for choosing a supplier of technological equipment has been developed by the leading specialists of the enterprise. The Government authorities supported the program.
On September 10, 1992, representatives of PA Balkhashmed and MAG Austrian Company signed a Supply Contract of machinery and equipment to produce the enameled wire. The managing staff of NF Machining Plant was responsible for the implementation of the Supply Contract.
Further, the search started on the most rational options for construction, location of technological lines and equipment configuration.
Construction of the workshop began in April 1995. Future specialists mastered the technology of enameled wire in Austria, later then they formed the backbone of the team. A year later, on April 4, 1996, the official opening of the workshop was held, which was attended by Nursultan Nazarbayev, the First President of our country. This day became the official birthday of the new enterprise specializing in the production of end products in Kazakhstan.
In 1997, the infant industry got through the first challenge. By the bankruptcy of PA Balkhashmys, the Workshop became the part of Balkhash Mining Concentrating Complex, Kazakhmys Corporation LLC, and all the necessary auxiliary objects of the Workshop left on the territory of NF Machining Plant.
The workshop personnel faced new challenges; they had to build an administrative and household complex, warehouses, and auxiliary premises within a short time.
That was no easy matter. However, the availability of equipment, specialists and highly qualified workers still gave the company an excellent opportunity to produce end products of excellent quality.
Thanks to the support and creative initiatives of the enterprise managing staff, the construction of the enamel wire shop was completed within the approved terms.
25 -years have passed since those memorable times. All these years, the workshop has been steadily keeping up with the times – following requirements of new technologies – electronic data processing, new forms of production management. The technological line allows producing of wire with improved insulation properties as well as copper wire, which is high-demanded by cable industry enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It must be noted that the production of the workshop was awarded special diplomas on exhibitions "Karaganda Quality Standard" and the first republican contest "Kazakhstan Best Goods".
The enterprise had moments of ups and downs, but the personnel adequately withstood the economic instability of the time.
Currently, the workshop producing copper and enamel pipes is one of the stable operating structural branches of Kazakhmys Smelting LLP.
Erkyn Turarovich Zhumabekov has been the head of the workshop for 25 years.
It should be noted that today enterprise stands firmly on its own feet due to brilliant veterans of the enterprise: Lyudmila Levchenko, Valery Shin, Askhat Yermekov, and Alexander Khlynov. Mentors of young employees are Sergey Khairutdinov, Bakhytkul Kenbavina, Tatyana Kazakova, Askhat Abdrakhmanov, and many other employees, who have more than 20 years of work experience.
Within the past 25 years, the workshop formed a friendly and cohesive team, which can solve industrial and social tasks.
On the 25th anniversary, the workshop personnel will evaluate the experience they gained, and make their plans for the future to be prepared for the new anniversaries ahead.
